Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Luminous Light

If you follow me on Instagram you would know that I very often reach for my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder.

I've now had it for a couple of months and seem to fall in love with it each time I use it.

The Packaging
Just like their blushes the powder comes in a bronze compact with a mirror. It looks so luxurious and I keep mine in the original box because I don't want to scratch the beautiful case.

The Product
There are a lot of reviews on this powder and some are hit and misses. When I first got mine I wasn't too impressed because it did not last on my face for more than 3-4 hours but then I tried it over my Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation which stays matte on my skin pretty much all day and this beautiful powder just worked. It made my skin glow in a good way. It just looked like my skin was glowing from within and it lasted all day. The Ambient Lighting Powder is finely milled and is so soft on the skin and not cakey at all.

What I Like
It feels light and gives me an amazing glow. The sheen is so subtle that it's ok if you apply it all over the face but it can also be built up if you want to use it as a subtle highlighter. I will definitely purchase the Ambient Lighting Powder Palette to keep in my professional makeup kit.

What I Don't Like
That it doesn't seem to last a very long time on sheer or dewy looking foundations. I found applying a setting powder first does the trick but it still doesn't seem to last as long as it does with my Double Wear Foundation.

Have you tried the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder before? Do you perhaps have a dupe for it?

Kiss and Makeup NY Haul - Nars & Khiel's

I have been lusting after a few items by Nars for a little while now, so I bit the bullet and ordered it from Kissandmakeupny.com

Their prices on par with the US prices and they ship to Australia for $9.95. On my to buy list was the creamy concealer but they didn't have my colour so I will have to buy that here in Sydney.

So here is what I got.

Nars Lipstick in Cruising
I wanted a nice neutral lipstick that I can wear on a daily basis that did not wash me out. After some research on google I decided to give this colour a go and I can honestly say it's perfect.

Nars Lipstick in Funny Face
A blue toned pink lipstick. It's got my name written all over it. I was going to get Schiap but decided to go for something not so bright. Love this colour and it's so me.

Nars Eyeshadow Due in Kalahari
Again I wanted some neutral that can be used on a daily basis and these colours are so beautiful. The eyeshadows are creamy, pigmented and wearable for day and night.

Khiel's Lip Balm
I'm a sucker for lip balms. Even thought I have my holy grail lip balm I still keep buying others in the hope to replace it. This one is nice and soft and so far has kept my lips moisturised.

L-R: Nars Crusing, Nars Funny Face, Nars Kalahari (indoors)

Have you purchased from Kiss and Makeup before?

Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Foundation Review & Swatches

It was definitely time for Maybelline to come out with a new range of foundations. I love their Dream Mousse Liquid foundation but that one was at the end and I was excited to get my hands on this one and try it out.

The Packaging
The foundation comes in slim glass bottle with a pump and a lid.

The Foundation
Maybelline have definitely changed their colour names around as I could pick up a Sandy Beige in any other face product and it would match but with this foundation I grabbed the 021 Nude which is the same colour as my Sandy Beige. The foundation is quiet thick but is surprisingly really easy to apply to your face with your fingers. It's always a bonus when you don't have to use a brush. Maybelline promise that this foundation will give you better skin in 21 days. I've been using mine now for about 2 weeks and honestly can't tell the difference in my actual skin, but it does however give you a natural looking complexion when applied. It is medium build able coverage with SPF 14.

How To Apply It
I have tested this foundation out using my fingers and my brush, with a primer and setting powder and without. The Better Skin foundation applied with your fingers, without primer and setting powder looks beautiful but it did not last very long on my skin. It lasted about 4 hours before it started to "slide off". When I applied it with a primer and setting powder it lasted an extra hour but when I applied it with a brush, primer and setting powder it lasted a good 8 hours before I needed to touch up. So if you have combination to oily skin I would definitely recommend the application with a brush and don't skip the primer and setting powder.

What I Like
I like the fact that it's an affordable foundation and if applied properly can last majority of the day without needing any touch ups.

What I Don't Like
The only thing that threw me off a bit was the fact that I had to colour match myself again but that is only a minor dislike.

Have you tried this foundation yet and what do you think about it?

Let's Create with Thermomix - Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Banana's always seem the be the first fruit to go off in our house but luckily my family loves a nice loaf of banana bread. We have been enjoying the one from the Everyday Cookbook but when Leanne from Lime & Mortar  uploaded this one on her blog, I simply had to try it.

The fact that it's made with Oats and Wholemeal flour makes it that little bit healthier than the traditional banana bread.

Onto the recipe we go.

2 Ripe Bananas
40g Butter
70g Raw Sugar
70g Rolled Oats
100g Wholemeal Flour
170g Milk
1 tsp Baking Powder
1 tsp Vanilla Extract/Essence/Paste
80g Chocolate Chips (and extra to sprinkle on top)

1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees fan forced. Line a loaf tin with baking paper.
2. Add bananas to bowl and blend for 5 sec, speed 6
3. Add butter and sugar and mix for 20 sec, speed 4
4. Add Oats, Wholemeal Flour,  Milk, Baking Powder and Vanilla Extract and mix for 20 sec, speed 4
5. Add Chocolate Chips and mix on Reverse, 10 sec, speed 4
6. Pour mixture into prepare tin and bake for 30-40 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the middle comes out clean.

You can turn these into muffins and replace the Chocolate Chips with other ingredients such as dried fruit, nuts or as Leanne said Peanut Butter. Yummy

Let's talk about Weightloss - Introducing Kristy

The wonderful Kristy is another one of those people who really inspire me. She started her weighloss journey in May 2013 weighting 117kg. She has now lost a whopping 47kg and is looking hot hot hot. Just like Amy, Kristy has been a wonderful friend and support to myself and many others. Her journey has taken her to places she never thought possible and has been featured in the Michelle Bridges Total Body Transformations book.

What was the catalyst for you wanting to lose weight?
My health. I had been sick with pneumonia 2 times in 12 months and was very very ill. I needed my health back so i could look after my kids.

Prior to this successful weightloss, how many times have you attempted to get fit and healthy and failed?
A billion trillion times! Every diet & quick fix you can think of, I've probably tried it!

What keeps you motivated?
Motivation? I like to call it inspiration! My inspirations keep me going. I am inspired by close friends, by my family and most of all - I strive to be the best version of me possible at all times. People ask "what keeps you inspired" well, this is just a way of life now. Healthy is second nature!

Has your weightloss journey affected your relationship with your partner, friends and family?
No, infact it has made my relationship with hubby stronger ( hubba hubba ) - friends come and go, but true friends hang no matter what. It sure has weeded out some but has also found me some of the most inspirational fit friends -

How did you overcome those dreaded cravings?
I didn't give in but i didn't give up either! I am a true chocoholic through and through. If there was chocolate to be had, it would be in my mouth, my pocket or even my handbag! I made sure i had 2 squares of lindt 70% dark every night with my cup of tea. It took the edge off the craving and satisfied the beast!

Healthy eating is often one of the most challenging parts of losing weight. Did you struggle with the emotional and psychological aspect of changing the way you eat?
No - not at all. I was very strict with my calories and my mindset was strong.  I set myself goals and by golly I got them!

What was your biggest downfall during this journey?
My biggest downfall would have been spending far too much money on workout clothes! Everytime something became lose I'd buy more! (in a smaller size but omg I spent some $$!)

What do you eat on a typical day?
Breakfast - Oats and berries
Morning Tea - Yoghurt or a handful of nuts and seeds
Lunch - A pre prepared 12wbt meal like Beef Stroganoff,  Spinach & Ricotta Cannelloni
Afternoon Tea - A piece of fruit or some nuts and seeds
Dinner - Chicken Breast, Baby Spinach and a Salad
Dessert - 2 squares Lindt 70% Dark Chocolate with a Tea or Coffee

What are your top 5 tips to others wanting to lose weight?
1. Organise 1 hour a day for exercise. Make a date with yourself and stick to it.
2. Make bulk meals and freeze in portion controlled containers so you have a healthy, nutritious choice when you are time poor.
3. Find a exercise that you like. If you enjoy it, you're more than likely to stick with it.
4. Make 1 day a week your rest day and stick with it. Your body needs time to recover from the exercise it's now getting.
5. Set small achievable goals. For instance... I was 117.2 kilos. Saying "I need to lose 50 kilos" seemed daunting. I broke it up to smaller goals. My first was to be under 110 kilos, then under 100, then under 90, then under 80 and so forth, i really found it more realistic.

How did being overweight make you feel in day to day life?
I was unfit, tired all the time, and unwell. I felt like crap!

How do you feel in day to day life now that you’re healthier and fitter?
I feel fantastic! Even when i have a case of manflu or sinus i still feel great. Feeling awesome is my new black.

Weightloss is not only about getting fit and eating healthy but dealing with physiological strain? Do you struggle seeing yourself as a new and improved person or do you still think of yourself as the girl from a year ago?
I used to struggle. At first, I'd head to the larger section of the shops. Then realise I was in the wrong section. I still sometimes head to the larger section and think ooops! I sometimes look at pictures and say  "Is that really me?" It's still new to me. But I'm getting used to it.

If you could give one piece of advice to a busy, sleep deprived mum, what would it be?
Prep your meals. Kids are sanity, sleep and energy zappers! If you can prep your meals then you will always have a healthy choice at hand. Also exercise WITH your kids. There is always something you can do. Put them on or in Prams & bikes and go walking. Let them roam the backyard while you do shuttle runs from your back door to your back fence, have races, play tag, kick a ball. Making them active will also help wear them out for a good night sleep - if you have a newborn, sleep when they sleep. You have to do what you have to do to get by.

What are some of the exercises that you’ve tried and which ones do you love? My all time favourite is boxing training! Squats, punching the bags, partnering up for pad work, skipping - urgh - love! But i hate pistons!

Thinking back, is there anything you would do differently?
Absolutely not! Life is bliss - my family is bliss - I am now healthy too!

If you would like to follow Kristy on her journey you can do so by following her on her Facebook Page here or Instagram here.

How absolutely inspirational is Kristy? Do you have anyone that inspires you? Leave me a comment below.

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette Review & Swatches

I'm so happy to be finally reviewing the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette. I've had it for about a month and a half and have loved playing around with it.

I bought mine at Mecca Maxima when they finally got it back in stock. They had apparently put it out on the shelfs that morning and I managed to snatch the second last only about 3 hours after opening.

The Packaging
The packaging is very similar to the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. This one also reminds me of the funky pencil cases that I used to have in the 80's. It's a metal tin but unlike the Naked 3 palette it has a magnet closure which does not seem like a very secure way to close the palette. I have also noticed that one end of the palette is completely shut, whereas the other has a slight gap.

The Eyeshadows
I'm really happy with the choice of colour that you get in this palette. Some are more pigmented than others but they all seem to be very nice, soft and butter and are very easy to apply. And it is true what they say, this palette really does smell like beautiful sweet chocolate. I caught hubby sniffing it the other day because he had a craving for chocolate (crazy man)

Gilded Ganache: Shimmering deep green/brown with rose gold glitter
White Chocolate: Matte Vanilla aka White chocolate
Salted Caramel: Matte Medium Orange with hints of Brown
Marzipan: Frosted version of the Salted Caramel colour
Semi-Sweet: Matte Brown
Hazelnut: Frosted Bronze Brown
Creme Brulee: Frosted Gold with a tinge of Rose Gold
Haute Chocolate: Frosted Brown

Top Row: Gilded Ganache, White Chocolate
Middle Row: Salted Caramel, Marzipan, Semi-Sweet
Bottom Row: Hazelnut, Creme Brulee, Haute Chocolate

Milk Chocolate: Matte Medium Brown
Black Forest Truffle: Shimmering Burgundy with Rose Gold Glitter
Triple Fudge: Matte Deep Dark Brown (I love this on my eyebrows)
Strawberry Bon Bon: Matte Light to Medium Pink
Candied Violet: Shimmering Cool Violet with Pink Shimmer
Amaretto: Frosted Brown with Red Undertones
Cherry Cordial: Matte Plum/Brown with a slight shimmer
Champagne Truffle: Frosted Light Pink

L - R
Top Row: Milk Chocolate, Black Forest Truffle, Triple Fudge
Mid Row: Strawberry Bon Bon, Candied Violet, Amaretto
Bottom Row: Cherry Cordial, Champagne Truffle

What I Like
The pigmentation of these eyeshadows is unbelievable especially on the frosted colours. I also like the colour variety and this is the perfect all year round palette.

What I Don't Like
The packaging on this palette has really thrown me off. While I don't mind the metal tin, I do mind the magnetic closure which in my opinion is very flimsy and doesn't close properly. I also found one day one of the eyeshadows fell out of the palette and I had to use a hot glue gun to stick it back in. Not sure if I just received a bad batch of packaging or if they are all the same.

Have you tried this particular palette? What are your favourite colours?

Lost & Found Beauty Products

I didn't want to call this post "Shop the Stash" because quiet frankly I had no idea that I still had these items.

I did a massive clean out of all my beauty and makeup items a few weeks ago and there were so many things that ended up in the rubbish bin that were barely used and have expired a long time ago and couldn't be saved.

Some of the items pictured here were purchased within the last 12 months but were quickly put into a box and forgotten about. But on the other hand some of the items were very much loved and I have hit pan on them and others just need a good little clean and they would look brand new again.

So what is the point of this post you ask? Well in order to keep my little shopping addiction at bay, I have decided that for 30 days (starting tomorrow) I will use one or more of these each day to try and use up as many products as possible and to help me save some money so that I can buy a few of those luxe items that I'm dying to have.

So what's in this little stash? Here is a list and I don't even want to know how much $ has been forgotten about and was sitting in a box.

  • Max Factore 2000 Calorie Curved Mascara in black
  • Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie in Dare Devil (I don't think I've ever used this)
  • MAC Lipstick in All Revealing
  • L'Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in 235
  • Youngeblood Mineral Radiance in Sundance (I don't even use bronzer so let's see what I can do with this)
  • MAC Bronzing Powder in Refined Golden (another bronzer... hmmmmm)
  • Napoleon Mosaic Gleamer
  • Napoleon Colour Disc in 40
  • Napoleon Colour Disc in 8
  • MAC Eyeshadow in Living Pink
  • MAC Eyeshadow in Prismique
  • MAC Eyeshadow in Li'Lily
  • Napoleon Eye Patrol in Private Storm
  • Inglot Eyeshadows in 600. 610, 638, 665 and 667

That is a lot of makeup, so who wants to join me on this challenge? I'll be taking daily makeup photos using these and posting them Instagram. So if you want to play along join me there. If anyone can think of a really cool #hashtag for this challenge leave me a comment below.

Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette Look 2

I have finally managed to create another one of my much loved looks using the Naked 3 Palette. I love this look because it doesn't look too pink and can even be worn everyday as you can make it as natural or glittery as you like.

Step 1 - Apply Primer to the eyelids.

Step 2 - Take the colour Burnout and apply it to all over the lid.

Step 3 - Take the colour Nooner and apply it to your crease. Use a fluffy blending brush and blend away all the rough edges.

Step 4 - Take the colour Liar and apply it to the outer V of your lids and blend together with the crease colour.

Step 5 - Take the colour Strange and apply that to the brow bone.

Step 6 - Take a clean flat brush and put the colour Trick on it, then lightly spray it with Mac Fix + and pat it gently onto the centre of the eyelid. Take any leftover and apply it to the lower lashline. You can apply this dry if you don't want the colour to stand out so much or keep patting it on if you want it to stand out more

Step 7 - Take the colour Liar and apply it to the lower lashline blending it together with the colour Trick.

Step 8 - Once the eyeshadow has dried take a clean blending brush and gently blend away any rough edges.

Step 9 - Apply Eyeliner drawing a winged line and follow up with mascara and fake eyelashes if you like.
