Benefit They're Real! Push-Up Liner Review

It's no secret just how much I love my Mac Fluidline Gel Eyeliner, so when the media went crazy about the release of the Benefit They're Real Push-Up Liner which is gel eyeliner in a easy to use pen form, I was intrigued!

The Benefit They're Real Push-Up Liner is set to be released in Australia on the 27th June, but I took the opportunity and bought mine at the Pre-Sale event at Myer on the 14th June.

For those of you who haven't heard about it yet, it's a new innovation for gel eyeliner. The gel eyeliner is packaged in a pen form with a special applicator called Accu-Flex Tip. It's like a rubber felt tip angled brush that's quiet flexible.

The Packaging
I love the feel of the packaging. The pen is a decent size and isn't too thick or too thin which makes holding it easy. It's also a twist pen. At first it takes about 20 twists to get the product out but after that it's a matter of one twist and you get enough product to line one eye. It also comes with a twist top lid which is a bonus for me as it means that it will stay put and there is no chance of the lid coming off by accident which then means no drying of the product.

The Product
The colour is matte jet black. I don't think you can go anymore black than this and I love it. Benefit also claim that this product won't smudge, budge or dry out and I have to agree with them. It does not budge and smudge! I tried to smoke it out and it didn't work, I let my kids touch my eyelids and it didn't budge and when I tried to remove it with my trusty micellar water it didn't move. It took a good amount of coconut oil to get this of my eyelids.

How To Use It
I've had this now for a few days and I wanted to cry the first time I attempted to use it. It does take some getting used to but I got there after the third attempt. I'm lucky to have learned to apply my regular gel liner with an angled brush. Once I looked past this product as being a pen and imagined it to be my regular angled brush things started to work out. Because of the amazing design of the rubber felt tip it's easy to press the product right into the lashline and draw the line. It also dries very quickly which prevents it from smudging onto the lower lashes or undereye area if you have to close your eyes to draw the line. I use the same steps as I do with my regular gel liner and it works out well.

What I Like
I really like the Benefit Push-Up Liner and it's longevity. It has amazing staying power and I just love that it's the blackest of blacks. I wouldn't use it on a day to day basis unless I can figure out how to draw a really fine line with it, but on the days when I want to rock a winged eyeliner or make my eyes stand out this will be my go to product.

What I Don't Like
The one problem that I came across with this Push-Up Liner is that if you try to go over the same line again, you may have the deal with flaking. Yes the line that was so beautifully drawn on seems to flake and crack if you go over it again which is a bit annoying. This is one of the things that has me turned off this product. Another downside to this Push-Up Liner is the price. At $35 it's quiet expensive and if you thought that other brands might soon release their own version of this Push-Up Liner I wouldn't get too excited. I read on the Benefit blog that they have the patent pending to this design so I'm looking forward to see if other cosmetic companies will copy it anyway or come up with something similar.

Have you tried it? Do you like it?

Red Lips for a Night Out

I'll be the first one to admit that I was petrified of red lipsticks, but as I got older and started experimenting I started to really fall in love with them. To me there is nothing better to see on a woman than a red lipstick that's done well and by that I mean the perfect balance of lips vs eyes. It's taken me a while to find the right balance for me and I wanted to share it with you how I do my eye makeup to go with a red lipstick on a night out.

I decided to use the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette for my eyes but you could use any brown or grey eyeshadows that you like.

Step 1 - Apply primer to your eyes and add a transition colour to your outer V and crease

Step 2 - Take a darker colour (I mixed 3) and intensify the outer V and crease. Then add a light shade colour and put that on your brow bone and inner eyelid and blend away until your colours are beautifully blended

Step 3 - Apply your liner. You can use any liner you like and extend the wing as far as you prefer. I like a small hardly noticeable wing because after all I want the red lips to be in the centre of attention with this look.

Step 4 - Take a highlighting colour and apply it to the inner corner of your eyes and take it down to your lower lash line. Add a darker eyeshadow colour and line half the outer lower lash line and blend well with the light colour.

Step 5 - Apply mascara and fake eyelashes if you like.

Step 6 - Take a lipliner and line your lips.

Step 7 - Pencil in your lips with the lipliner. Take a tissue paper and blot your lips.

Step 8 - To have long lasting lipstick I like to do the following. Apply your lipstick and again take a tissue paper and do the blotting trick. Then apply your final coat of lipstick. If you like yours matte, you can blot it with tissue paper again or add some gloss for amazing shine.

How to look like you had a full nights sleep

Most of the mummies out there will know what I'm talking about. You know those nights when you're little one is waking hourly for no apparent reason, is sick or just decided to have a party at 3am. Then you have to get up at 6am and look presentable for work or school. How many times did I go into work looking so horrible to the point when my colleagues would come up to me and ask me if I'd slept at all.

It doesn't take very long to add an extra step in your morning routine to make you look more awake and you will definitely feel better during the day knowing you don't look like death.

Here are a few simple steps

1. Apply your primer and foundation as you normally do.

2. Take a concealer that is one shade lighter than your skin colour. I love the Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer which is specifically formulated for dark circles or the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer which has amazing staying power.

3. Take your concealer brush or fingers (if you're using a concealer that doesn't come with an applicator)

4. Apply the concealer in the inner corners of your eyes and dragging it down along your nose and up around your under eye circles

5. Apply some on your brow bone and the top of your eyebrows. This will give you an instant eye lift

You can leave it at this point and continue blending it out or you could add the following steps to give your face a gorgeous glow

6. Apply concealer to the forehead, the bridge of your nose, your chin, your top lip and on top of your cheekbone

7. Take your foundation brush, blending brush or sponge or use your fingers and dab the highlighted areas until the colour is completely blended into your skin without sweeping it across your face. You don't want the concealer to end up all over your cheeks

You could then continue with your face powder if you use one and use a highlighter to add even more glow to your cheekbones, forehead, bridge of the nose and chin.

No Foundation vs Foundation

One side Concealed - spot the difference?

A touch of blush, mascara and lipstick and voila!

What tips and tricks do you have up your sleeve to make you look like you had a full nights sleep?

L'Oreal Colour Riche Moisture Matte Lipstick in Red Valentine Review

Matte Lipsticks and it's beautiful pigmented colours are one of those things that look amazing but don't always feel that great, which is why until now you would rarely see it it in real life situations because they wouldn't wear well or last long enough for you to have a glass of bubbles.

I've personally never been a big fan of matte lipsticks simply because my lips were in a bad state (read all about it here) and it just would not last and would end up looking patchy.

One day whilst browsing Priceline I stumbled across a new line of L'Oreal Lipsticks called Colour Riche Moisture Matte. I was intrigued straight away. I fell in love with the colour Glamour Fuchsia but I was told that they hadn't received shipment of that colour yet, then I grabbed Red Valentine and it was very similar.

I went home and tried it on and loved it. The pigmentation of this lipstick is absolutely amazing and the texture is soft and feels nourishing on the lips rather than drying like some other matte lipstick that I've tried. The hint of the blue undertone in this colour is perfect for my complexion and makes my teeth appear much whiter than they actually are. Although the colour is called Red Valentine it's definitely not a red lipstick. There is a hint of red but it's more of a pink coloured lipstick.

The packaging looks luxurious.

I've worn this lipstick to a few special occasions and I can honestly say that's it's lasted all night whilst eating and drinking and lot's of "hello" kissing. It does not come off with my Garnier Micellar Water and I have to use coconut oil to thoroughly remove it.

This is definitely a keeper and I'm so happy that I can finally enjoy matte lipsticks.

This retails for $21.95 but I managed to snapped it up for $15 during one of the Priceline sales.

I can't wait to add a few more colours to my collection.

Skincare Frustration

After my very positive review on my Olay skincare routine, my skin just broke out and flared up. I've never had a reaction to skincare like that and stopped using it immediately. I went back to whatever else I had until I could make it to the shops.

I bought a new cleanser and toner but am so undecided on the moisturiser. I got a few samples from Mecca Maxima but you can't really tell if the product is good or not after only a few days usage.

Ideally I would like something that can control my breakouts and help with the appearance of lines and wrinkles on my combination skin.

So far I'm really happy with how the Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash feels on my skin.

I was also recommended the Mario Badescu Alpha Grapefruit Cleansing Lotion and I just love that it doesn't dry my skin out like other toners.

So my wonderful readers, is there a holy grail moisturiser that you absolutely love and that works on you?

Weekend Outfit #4

It's been another busy weekend for us again. The boys went camping and me and my little girl did alot of shopping, cleaning, baking and having lots of one on one time. We also celebrated my brothers birthday yesterday. We had dinner at my parents place with my uncle and aunty and it was such a nice and casual and fun afternoon.

I went for comfort (cue stretchy pants) because there was a lot of yummy food.

PantsSussan Ponte Biker Leggings

KnitSportsgirl V neck knit (mine is grey)

BootsSam Edelman Suede Booties. These are by far the most comfortable boots I've ever owned

BanglesMimco and Pandora

I also had to share some pictures of the desserts. We had a beautiful Pannacotta with Berries and my brother's birthday cake. I have no idea how to describe this cake! It's got a moist biscuit base with a sugar syrup and an egg white and sugar syrup cream on top. It's my brothers favourite cake and since it's so rich and sweet he only get's it once a year for his birthday. (sorry about the bad mobile pics)

What did you get up to this long weekend?

Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil Review

I was never a big fan of filling in my eyebrows only because I always thought it looked a bit fake, hence why I would always ask for an eyebrow tint with my waxing, but in order to save some money on beauty treatments I decided to start using an eyebrow pencils.

I didn't want to spend any money on buying new products so only used a few that I had in my makeup kit but neither of them seemed to work for me. I really like using an eyeshadow to fill mine in but it was a pain getting the eyeshadow and a brush to do it especially on the days when I had to rush out the door or have my two cheeky troublemakers touching everything else in sight.

I walked into Mecca Maxima a few weeks ago and asked for an eyebrow pencils. The sales assistant showed me the Hourglass Arch Brow and I was in love, but at a hefty $48 price tag my heart skipped a beat. I decided to keep searching but nothing was as good as this. So when I did a Sephora order I order this and it is only $32 in the States. I've now been using it for a few weeks and am really liking it.

The reason why I like this product so much is because it gives the eyebrows a really natural finish. I'm not one of those girls who like their eyebrows to be really defined so this beautiful slightly waxy pencil is a winner for me.

It is a twist up, double ended pencil which doesn't require sharpening (tick!) with a spoolie on the other end of the tube (another tick!!) The pencil has a triangular shape that is so simple to use. The wide part is for filling in, and the pointy part is for drawing or lining the shape, extending the eyebrow shape or mimicking fine hairs. The best part is that you can just soften the whole look with the spoolie.

It comes in the signature Hourglass dark metallic bronze tube and actually feels a lot more luxurious than the Hourglass Ambient Lightening Blush.

You can get this in the colours Blonde, Soft Brunette and Dark Brunette. I picked dark brunette simply because the soft brunette seemed to be just a touch too light for me at the moment with my dark hair.

What is your favourite eyebrow pencil?
